How the hell has it lost its identity? That implies it's been scrapped. I can't help thinking that if the owner truly understood what would be involved in putting it back on the road and knew what it would be worth when that was done, he would have done it. As it is, it looks to me as if he's trying to trick somebody into buying a non-runner on the assumption that could easily be turned into a safe road-legal car worth more than they paid for it.

I bet its perfectly OK but has been traded in under the scrappage scheme so its identity cannot be used as the car has been 'destroyed'

I agree, I am sure I have seen this one listed by this owner some months back. Obviously couldn't sell it then and is having another go.

But didn't cars traded in under that scheme have to be destroyed ?

Would any reputable dismantler risk the consequences of trading cars on ?

I don't know why we all talk down the values of our cars I would like to think a sorted S was worth 5k

I emailed them for some info and I got this back.

The car has no engine number, no chassis number and no log book, might be an issue with putting it back on the road.

It would be interesting to see what the state of the chassis numbers etc are in - if they have been ground off with a grinder then I smell a rat. I guess face to face they may tell you.

The advert notes S2 and 2.9 engine. Thats a 2.8 engine isnt it? so it may be an S1.5 but didnt think you could get an S2 with the 2.8 engine?

Mines a January 91 S2 with a 2.9 engine!

I was just about to say this. That is a 2.8 engine and to the best of my knowledge all S2s were 2.9. I've got a 1.5 and that has a 2.9, I think the 1.5s all had 2.9s but some had some bits of S1 trim (I may be corrected on this).

Apart from that the car sounds as fishy as a tin of sardines. It needs no restoration but he doesn't want to put it on the road as he doesn't do restoration? No engine or chassis numbers? I didn't see the thread the first time round but from what I can gather he's dropped the price £3k? Alarm bells are ringing!

It looks like an S1: 2.8 engine, window winders,etc.
There's chrome bumper trim on the front (as the later cars), but not the back, so maybe the bonnet isn't original.
The steering wheel & gearknob look like S3 items.

Looks like someone's done an insurance job and had it "stolen" - wouldn't touch it with a barge pole - if it has been insurance fraud/scrappage fraud and the police discover it, it will be impounded and the innocent new owner will lose their vehicle with no compensation.....

Strange how the engine & interior pictures are exactly the same as this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its time to runaway from any thoughts of buying it
