After getting the car back together last weekend I had it tuned on Thursday, it managed 180 BHP @ flywheel, seems to be running well, should be getting the windscreen sorted this week ready for the Chatsworth meet

Isn't the S supposed to be 176bhp at the flywheel anyway ???

Cheers
Matt.

The road where PaulV had his set up would suggest a Griffith 500 actually had the 340bhp TVR claimed !!!!

No, only joking !!!! Pauls car is flying at the moment. I have driven this car and agreed it was a quick one when I drove it. Since then we've (Paul mainly...) has put the engine back together with a couple of mods to the valve lapping and the performance is noticeable at the top end. I can't atay with him at the moment Moment being the operative word, and anyway I'm far quicker through the twisty bits !!!!

Cheers

Mark

Must admit marks quicker through the twistys but thats to do with suspension and the headcase driving. Well when I finally get some different shocks it might handle a bit better. I really don’t want to go too harsh, as the ride on long journeys is good.

I must admit I did wonder if the rollers were over reading, well the mini club might be having a test day at a rolling road, I might see if I can sneak it and compare it. Although it will have higher compression due to the skim.

Well johno’s car isn’t too happy either, maybe it’s a twin thing? It’s not anything simple like the return spring? My throttle pot may mine idle a bit fast, 1500 rpm, maybe you could unplug it and see if it settles down?

I can vouch(sp) for that! I could only keep up in the run to Castle Combe, had problems overtaking. One quick car.

I had mine done last month and managed 186 at 5386rpm and 219 ibft at 3350 on a lovely smooth power curve, it is running with a mild road cam, and some minor work on the exhaust ports.

It now runs very well indead but is a little rich on tickover.

I was really tempted to go get a cam and have some other bits done but decided against it in the end. As johno said to me the job was to change the exhaust manifolds not to tune it. I only spent £200 on the heads being reconditioned then bolted it back together, this was more to prevent having to do it again than get more power. What duration is the cam you have? I did think about getting some high lift rockers but couldn’t find anyone who made them. Have decided that the shocks will be the next job then leave it alone.

Thats rich Mr "I think I'll get the heads done" " the exhaust has suddenly developed a funny resonance" (just b4 we go to Zolder) & of course "I think I'll change the dampers and springs"

Come on Paul !!! Fairs fair we're as bad as each other. I'll be even quicker through the twisties though. Although if you have my old dampers you won't be far behind !!!!!

Maybe some headwork, and a cam.....urm urm. Could have a fast road/race cam with big valve heads and some porting work done at the start of June.......

Paul,

The cam I used was a Kent Cams mild road (V6T45), I was advised that anything more would require the ECU to be re-mapped - I was quoted £580+vat for that so wasn't in a hurry. All the other work I did was after the combustion chamber so as not to screw up the ECU too much.

I had to rebuild the engine anyway as one of the camshaft bearings had bound and spun in it's housing screwing up the block, cam, oil pump and crank. I got a replacement engine out of a scrapper for £175 (delevered) and rebuilt it (saved me a furtune as the crank and pistons were good).

I got alot of help from John at JW developments, he specialised in V6 ford engines and really seems to know what he is doing, he also supplied all the parts at much less than Ford prices.

It has made a dramatic improvement, I'm not sure quite how it compares to standard which was why I quoted my rolling road stats, the driving is the real proof of the changes.

Hope that gives you the info you wanted.
