I collect my S2 on Tuesday - can't wait. Does anyone have any advice on where to acquire new carpets? I live in the Solihull area (Midlands). I am also looking for a reputable mechanic in the area.
Cheers

Welcome to the clan, is it the footwell mats you’re looking for? If so I think there is someone that advertises in the back of Sprint. The rest of the carpets are a pain to replace but some people have dyed the carpets still in the place. Are you coming to the Chatsworth meet?

All of the interior carpets need replacing as they are very worn. I am completley new to all this and am planning to join the TVR owners club. I used to own a S2 in 1992 - metallic black with Magnolia interior and it was a sad day when I had to sell it to buy a house. So when I saw a similar one advertised in Pistonheads last week in Malvern, I just had to have it. Just the sound of the engine was enough to convince me. The engine and chassis are in excellent condition but the interior needs some TLC. The roof also leaks badly (surprise, surprise). I would welcome any advice as I have a lot to learn!

Dear Matt
Thanks for your reply. I think David Gerald will be my best bet.
I have bought the midnight blue S2 (based in Malvern) advertised in Pistonheads last week. Excellent/well maintained engine and chassis but interior needs some work.
Any further advice would be much appreciated.

Louise,

Welcome to the fold !!! We are a disreputable bunch of down right scoundrels.....but......we love the S series and will not see you wrong ever !!!

Carpets can be done by most good fitters but I would steer you towards the likes of thise suggested due to their sympathy with the Marque...

I would recommend a visit along to the Chatsworth meet to come and see what the other members of this disreputable band are like....

Cheers

Louise,
If you get the carpets sorted post up a thread to tell us what they are like, I want to get mine done and the original Wiltons were fabulous but now look a bit tatty.

There is an in line fuse by the battery for the electric windows on earlier cars. Check that hasn't blown.

Check the connections to the back of the switch.

Check the wires to the door are intact.

May well be the internals of the switch, having trouble with my passenger side switch at the moment.

Poor earth to the motor can cause this as it takes a lot more power to put the window up than to let it down and any poor earth would be highlighted by this.

Say bugger it and take the roof off aswell and enjoy the wind in the hair experience !!!!

Cheers

Hi Louise,

Welcome to the S forum and your second round of S ownership.

A common problem with the electric windows is that the channel is slightly out of line or just gummed up.

Will the window go up if you help it - ie pull up carefully whilst pushing the button? My S3 used to do this at first (don't worry whoever owns it now - I fixed it). The cure is to clean the crap out and lubricate the channel with silicone spray (used for curtain rails or sold in Halfords) by applying to the edge of the window. This should ease it if that is the problem.

If there is no power to the motor swap the switch over with the passenger one to see if that cures it.

Good luck,
JSG.

Thanks for the advice.
The car hasn't been used for a while so I'm hoping its just something simple. Have booked it into David Gerald's for a general check up and I think I better have a crash course in car mechanics - I do not have a clue. All I know is that it sounds fantastic.

Hi Louise,

I have had an S2 for 2 1/2 years now which was totally shagged. I have had to do allot of work on then interior but was horrified at the prices of trimmers and pre-manufactured carpet sets (over £500 from the place in 'Sprint') so I bought a roll of carpet from the same man and did it myself. It wasn't that difficult especially as my carpets were so rotten they wanted to jump out of the car themselves!

As for the seats I had them recovered shortly after I bought the car for some astronomical cost (over £700) but they still were the same old C**p seats and the man did a bit of a bodge by not replacing all the leather, unfortunately two sets of stitching down the same seam left them nicely perforated so they tore. The upshot of this was I bought a set of Chimera seats which are more comfortable and better made for the princely sum of £160 from Global TVR in Cambridge, they took some chasing but are brilliant and now the other half can drive the car (back from the pub!) without needing a cushion.

The window motors are off a Rover 800 should yours be knackered - I have a spare passenger side one which I could post if required.

Best of luck.

Steve.

Thanks Steve
It was a faulty connection at the back of the switch.
Thanks for your advice on carpets and seats. My seats are not too bad and fortunately don't need a cushion to drive it anyway. Any further tips will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Louise
