Detailing

How do you chaps details your cars? I’m looking at maybe getting a DA polisher and using it with, say, Sonus SFX 2, 3 and 4 (enhancing polish, finish polish and sealant), having clayed it first. However, we are talking about paintwork that’s 20 years old. Will it take it? What I’m hoping is that if it’s done properly once a year all it will need is maintenance. What thinks you?

Have you taken a look on the detailing forum? It's not something I've got around to yet. Guess you are looking for more info on how old paint survives detailing.

I use a DA on the paint, brings it up fantastic, you can never get a finish like that by hand. Not sure what state your painwork is in, but start with the less aggressive compound. I've used final finish and it's a great product, gets little attention these days. I've recently jumped ship to Zaino, and am very impressed with the results. Just take your time.

you need a hot sunny day to do that better to be driving it than polishing
it

Nice one Nige, and reassuring chaps, thanks. Paints not bad at all, but it is dull. I have invested in a new bucket, with swizzy cr*p guard and some swanky towels. Have hinted at a DAS6 and assorted products for my "I can't believe it's come around so quickly" birthday. If the car isn't a nasty shade of undercoat when I've finished I may also post some before and afters.
