Evening all. I'm sure this subject has been done to death but I think it is worth another outing. My 2.9 S2 engine has quite high milage but has had regular oil and filter changes through out its life according to the history file, its now due a change. It uses no oil whats so ever. What is the general consensus of opinion as to the best oil to use. I have been told that fully synthetic tends to wash the bores, is this correct. If so should a semi synthetic such as Castrol Magnatec 10-40 be used. Look forward to you opinions.

Just my experience but the Mobil 0W40 was terrible in my car. Oil pressure was poor and engine sounded tappety.
After lots of reading I settled on Millers Classic 20W50.
Oil pressure is much better and the engine sounds much better with the thicker oil.
Highly recomended, from me anyway.

Over on the Chimaera forum it is generally agreed that a high zinc content oil is essential to prevent premature cam wear (anything over 60k is a good life for a Rover V8). I know Fords V6 hasn't got such a reputation for eating cams but I'm sure it would not do any harm, unless you have an S3C, zinc is not put in modern oils because it doesn't do catalysts any good.
I found the same problem with modern oils even with the semi synthetic oils

I am using Valvoline 20-50 mineral racing spec oil,
Quieter engine + oil pressure excellent,good deals can be found on e-bay,
or from your local motor factor.
Haynes Granada/Scorpio Manual says Multigrade SAE 10W/30 to 20W/50 for the 2.9 V6
remember these engines have been around since the 70's without much change
in the basic engineering, they were designed to run on the standard oils around at that time
the V6 engine sounded tappety + lower oil pressure.
