v8s flat battery

just inherited 92 v8s and battery is flat so cant get into boot to charge battery any clues please

You can charge the battery via the main power terminal on the alternator (+ve) and any earth point under the bonnet. This is where my trickle charger goes every winter.

Or just connect a spare battery in the same way temporarily and pop the boot open.

Either jump leads or a booster pack: put the positive clip on the big nut (thick cable) on the back of the alternator, negative terminal to earth, and pop the boot as normal.

Then move the jump leads / booster pack to the battery if you want to try to jump start it.

Using the alternator is risky if you are not confident and careful, get it wrong and you can damage alternator or wiring. Use the cigar lighter plug to pop the boot lid and then charge/jump battery

There is an alternate way into the boot but obviously its not a good idea to post on a public forum. I am happy to pass the information on via email but could you first drop me an email(PM) via my profile with your contact details addrees etc and something about the car (as you are new on here and not as yet known)

If you do use the cigar lighter socket, be aware that on some cars the socket is ignition switched so you would need to have the ignition on in order for this to work. Obviously, for cars that are ignition switched, this is not a suitable way to trickle charge the battery.

Sorry, didn't mean to charge it, just to power up enough to trip boot release. I used to supply a plug with crocodile clips so you could "jump start" the boot lid from a spare battery or other car

I can vouch for this means of popping the boot open when the battery is absolutely dead flat

I am also pretty sure the cigar lighter is not switched via the ignition.

I've used the alternator main power terminal quite a few times, but you do need to be careful as pointed out. No reason you couldn't use the cigar lighter socket if you have the appropriate connector available.
