Printer Help Please

I am trying to print some photo's from a new 4GB memory card via a HP Photosmart 7800 printer. The card has approx 550 images on it at the moment.

When i insert the memory card into the slot in the printer i get a red flashing warning light so the printer seems not to recognise the images on the card.

I have put a 2GB memory card with 627 images into the printer & it recognises the correct number of images instantly.

The 4GB card is unlocked & works perfectly in my camera so can anyone assist please.

I'm trying to prin the photo's for my 5 year olds school holiday photo project which have to be handed in tomorrow & i'm buggered if i can get the printer to read the card.

Do you have a computer to act as a half way house, thus, does that read the card? Can you transfer the pics to the working card?

got a lap-top. no idea how to view pictures on it from a memory card as i am utterly useless with anything like that.

cannot find where on the lap-top the memory card goes.....

don't know if it's of any help but I have the same issue with a Sandisk card reader - it won't recognise 4GB SDHC cards - I have to use a separate card reader for that plugged into another USB slot. Perhaps the printer won't recognise the SDHC card (assuming that's what yours is).

I will make the assumption it is an sd card, have a look round the front and side for a slot.

What's the laptop make and model? Wil be on the base?

And is it an SD card? Will say on it.

It is a TDK SD card so it wasnt cheap. Cost me around £17.00!!

The printer recognises other 4GB cards as just tried another one which works prefectly ok.

Most fujitsus have card readers so you should be able to slot in the card somewhere on the laptop to see if there is an issue with the card.

Also the other 4gb cards, do they have as many images?

One of the 4GB has almost 900 images from Goodwood last year & that works perefectly. Cannot find the card reader on my lappie.

Looking for a memory card sized slot & canot find it!!

How crap am i?

Only most laptops have it, some might not. If you post the make and model I will have a look at spec sheets and see if it has one or not.

Sorry, no sd card reader on that model. So no way to check or transfer the images on the laptop.

Unless there is a way to copy pictures from the sd card on your camera to a built in memory and paste back onto another card I am stumped.

Could be a disk used issue, so might be worth deleting any duff photos from the card and seeing if that helps.

Thank you Racing Pete. I appreciate your help tonight. I have deleted a few unwanted images however i still get the same flashing error message on the printer so i guess the card might be knackered.

I'll take it to m local camera shop, not Jessops!!!!, on saturday. Trouble is if the card is knackered its got a lot of images on it that i want & need, not to mention my 5 year olds holiday homework!

Oops....

Anyway on that note i'm out of here for the night.

Is the 4GB card an SDHC?

It will say on the card label.

Since the 7800 series has been around a while it's a distinct possibility that it can't read SDHC cards.

Since you don't have a card reader, I recommend you get one asap.

One that can read all the latest cards will cost you around £15 on the high street, Jessops/Currys/Argos etc or much cheaper on-line. They simply plug into a USB port on your computer.

If the current problem is not that the card is SDHC and not readable by the Printer's card reader then you are going to need a card reader to try and salvage the image files anyway.

Also, it sounds like you keep all your images on memory cards.

Having a card reader will allow you to back them up to HDD or burn to a CD/DVD so that firstly, they are safely backed up and secondly you can reuse the memory cards.

Can you not connect your camera to the laptop via USB and transfer the images to the printer via the laptop?

My guess is that it is an SDHC card and I beleive the 7800 does not support that, my 7600 at home doesn't. If that is the case then just get a usb adapter and plug it into the usb port on your computer they are only about £3.
