British Drift Championship at Donington

Hi guys,

Took a long old drive up to Donington Circuit yesterday to catch my first event, to be honest i was a little disappointed, fences were too high, the big drifting corners were too far away to get some super sharp panning shots, so had to use the closer corners which were at lower speeds. Still happy with some of the shots i got though....

Are they that bad?? Or is this kind of motorsport not appreciated on here!

Some decent shots in my opinion. I've taken a few drifting shots myself, so know how hard it can be to get good shots at these events. Sorry if you think I'm being too critical, but you've probably done a better job than me under the circumstances

1. 1 Not so sure about the editing to give the weird colour effects?
2. 2 nice vivid colours
3. 3 Would have liked to see the whole car here
4. 4 nice concept of getting the action in the background
5. 5 Nice action shot, only slightly spoiled by the cone
6. 6 fine shot, nothing really wrong
7. 7 lots of smoke
8. 8 weakest of the set for me. I think the bland car colour hinders this one, and with the car being dead centre central in the image and being almost straight on to the camera, it's not immediately obvious which direction the car is moving.

Not that bad at all motorsport does, in general, tend to get a little less attention in here...


Like your shots! Nice spread of subjects, detail shots are always nice to see - like some of your other detail shots on flickr as well.

C&C-wise:
For me they are 'over processed' - colours looking too saturated, 'halos' from localised contrast boosting (vibrance?), and vignetting. I know this is arguably a style that is often seen in drifting images, so it could just be personal preference...

IMO some of the composition can feel a little 'cramped' as well. If things are just out of frame (side of a car / corner of a door / etc.) then the image can feel 'unsettled'. I'd try cropping the images a little more?

Thanks for the honest feedback guys, nice to hear that more so than the normal 'good shots' you sometimes get.

I knew the processing wouldn't be to everyones taste but i felt it went with the whole drifting scene.

Sadly the crops on a lot of these shots were down the fact i was limited with space and stuck behind a huge fence, meaning i had to zoom in a little to remove the fence from view.
