Rechargeable batteries

Looking to get some rechargeable batteries and the last time I bought was for my sony walkman tape.
Looking now, there are thousands, some cheap, some expensive.
Looking for my two flash guns, and want them to last, not throw away after a couple of charges.
What do you guys in the know recommend?

I've had Duracell and Energizer's highest capacity ones and they are fine.

calumet's 2500mAh ones are £25 for 12. Use them all the time.

imho the battery technology matters more than the brand. Make sure you get NiMh and choose the largest capacity you can find for the battery size. I get mine from Maplin and generally pay £10-12 for 4 AA cells of about 2300mAh capacity. I've got them in all kinds of applications around the house (radios, GPS, camera, game controller) and haven't seen any fail yet.

I did a bit of online "research" when deciding on spares for my four Speedlites. Sanyo Eneloop seemed very well regarded and I bought a load of those. They seem to hold their charge very well and I've been very pleased with them. Haven't done any real comparisons though.
