Recording Video/Audio on Nikon d5000

I've started to mess around with the video on my D5000, it can record HD video and it's fine for that but the microphone is shocking. It will distort even at the quietest of volumes (I understand it may be a mono mic in it?)..

So I was thinking, is there any sort of device that would clip into my flash mount on the DSLR that would record the stand alone audio something like this:

That I could record as normal but record the audio separately and then edit it over the video in Final Cut Pro.
