Problem with my Lumix

Now, I know this forum is mainly for the DSLR users (of which I plan to be one soon) but in the mean time, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I have with my Panasonic Lumix TZ7.

Basically, there is a dark smudge appearing on the LCD screen and translating to the pictures. This gets darker as I zoom in. Now, before I take it to Panasonic (it's out of warranty) to get it looked at (50 squid inspection) does anyone know what it could be, and if there is a way to fix it? I've tried cleaning the lense, but this doesn't seem to do anything, and I can't see anything that could be causing it.

Also, is there a chance of an economic repair, or will I be better off writing off yet another piece of Panasonic equipment that has failed just outside of warranty?

It sounds like a bit of debris on one of the lenses or sensor. Easy fix, but does require usual full lens dismountal.

As for repair, £50 inspection is expensive. I can only speak for Jessops, as i work for them as they charge £25.

That's not even repair - I'm in Singapore and that's the Panasonic service price for inspection (plus tax)!

I'm back in the UK in April - do you reckon it would be a same day fix at Jessops?

Annoyingly, I may have to treat myself to a DSLR to tide me over...

Nope, usual turn around is 1 - 4 weeks.
