I have 17 CF cards, all from the same highly regarded manufacturer. I've not had a single problem in the last eight years of digital photography but recently one went bad on me. It was only a few months old so I contacted the esteemed manufacturer. They asked me some questions including the rather bizarre 'did it work before'. Over course of several emails I confirmed that I hadn't removed it while active, boiled it in oil or done anything else stupid. At this point they lost interest and it wasn't until I responded to a customer statisfaction survey in an extremely negative manner did they agree to replace the card. I duly shipped it off and waited........for three months. Wondering what was going on I looked on their site where you can see the progress of your case. Sure enough they'd received it but appeared to have done nothing else. I chased them up, stired them from their slumber and a week later a replacement card turned up. And this is the best bit, it was in a plastic case, inside a Ziploc bag, inside a Jiffybag, packed with four of those inflated bags, inside a huge thick cardboard envelope:

Maybe these things are more fragile than I thought?

They probably have ISO9000 quality process accreditation or something and have to follow certain 'packaging rules' whenever they ship anything no matter how dumb it may look.

Or not, as the case may be.

I had a Lexar Pro card go funny on me (I was trying to use it as a memory stick). The supplier, Calumet I think, replaced it without hesitation. That's when a 1Gb 40x card was £100!
