Photoshop help

Wonder if you guys can help me:

I have a logo on a .jpg which is white on a black background, I want to import it onto photos, but only the white portion - not the black background.

Is there an easy way I can make Photoshop see the black colour as transparent or do I have to cut the logo and paste it onto a transparent background?

Duplicate layer, delete background.
Magic wand - select black area. Hit delete - the backround should show the chequers indicating transparent.

Another way is using the Magic Eraser tool.

You will need to save it as a GIF or PNG though, because JPG doesn't support transparent backgrounds. If you save a jpg with a transparent background, the next time you open it, the background will be white.
