Im looking at getting myself a canon dslr.
Was thinking 550D as Iv been looking around and found some reasonable prices but is it worth stretching to a 600 or even a 60D?
Again some searches find reasonable prices for all of them but is it worth stretching a little further for the 60D or not?
Does anyone use either of the above cameras and have any pro's or con's for them?
Wheres the best places to look for cheap bundles or is there a better alternative? I favour canon purely because Iv had one before.

From the reviews I've read 600D has the movable screen and that's about it. Very much evolutionary than revolutionary. Was thinking 550D as Iv been looking around and found some reasonable prices but is it worth stretching to a 600 or even a 60D?

Not sure about the 60D though. They upset the loyalists (xxD brigade) by making the 60D a little light weight compared to the 50D (eg less features and plastic construction).
I've got the 60D and am very pleased with it.
The main differences between it and the 550 are the LCD status is on top like the XXD models. It has a much chunkier feel that the XXXD models too which fits my reasonably large hands better.
More visibly, the screen folds out, around and back so that you can use it like a camcorder. Additionally you get manual sound recording volume control.
Small things, but invaluable if you are going to be using it to take video. Depending on where you shop, the differential in price was about £100 or less, and the fact that it made the video aspect usable for me was the killer.

Im not fussed about videos, a friend of mine is more into amateure film, Im more into the photography, mainly car shows and PH runs but plenty else as well. Though I guess untill you have it you dont know but I cant see myself using the video option so the foldy screen doesnt bother me too much.

Otherwise on spec it is a 550D.
There is virtually nothing between them in the stats (other than FPS)

Personally I would do what others have suggested and go to a shop and see which one fits in your hand better. If that makes no odds then go for the 550D and spend the extra money on the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 lens.

get a grip off ebay for it. that's what most of us xxxD owners have done.Thanks very much guys, the comparison is brilliant. The better viewfinder and ergonomics could well clinch it if I can get one at a good price.

I would invest in a cheaper, higher quality body and some better glass as you arn't fussed with video. Plus the XXD bodies are built better with their metallic shell, have the nice quick wheel on the back and are much better to hold for real men with Alpha type hands. I hated the feel of the xxxD series, far too small and toy like.

I dont like the plastic construction, lockable mode dial and the flip out screen seems a weak point.
But over all its a good camera, i used it for my photo today for my 365.
