Which ND Filter?

Hello all.

I am really extremely keen to learn about taking shots of water and giving the water that smooth, silky look. I might be wrong, as im a bit of a photography novice, but i think i need an neutral density filter to achieve this.

If i am not wrong, what is the best one to get for around £20? I have seen some on the Jessops website for about £17. There are 3 different ones - Cokin P152 x2, Cokin P153 x4 and Cokin P154 x8 - and im not quite sure what the difference(s) between the three is/are and was wondering if you would be able to tell me.

They'll reduce the light by
Cokin P152 x2 = +1 stop
Cokin P153 x4 = +2 stops
Cokin P154 x8 = +3 stops

Will i need a filter holder or are they screw in?

Remember you'll need the filter holder and an adapter ring to screw onto the front of your lens (check the diameter) as well as the filter itself. I would go for the ND4 or ND8.

Yes i have found the filter adapter for a tenner but im not sure how much the adapter ring is. And yes i do have a tripod.

They are square filters, so you'll need a filter holder and an adaptor ring (filter holder slides into it)
