Flogging d90 for 550d - am I mad?

So what does the PH collective reckon? I have my d90, couple of primes and a flash gun that I find absolutely fantastic apart from two things:

1) Body is a bit big and unwieldy

2) There seems to be a stronger market for 2nd hand canon lenses.

3) I had a play with the 550d and it seemed to fit my hand perfectly - felt more discrete to carry about with me.

Am I crazy to be even thinking about moving from an enthusiastic amateur's body to what many reviewers are calling an entry(ish) level Canon body? From what I can see of image quality they're pretty much comparable in IQ. If I spend any more time poring over d90 and 550d pics with 50mm primes on flickr I'm sure my eyes will start bleeding!

How the camera feels in your hands is extremely important, so I'd say go for it.

The very first thing I did when looking at DSLRs was to go to a shop and try out Nikon and Canon bodies.

I had been told that their bodies were different sizes, Nikon aimed at people with bigger hands, Canon for people with smaller hands, and to buy the camera I was happiest holding - the differences in lenses, etc, are all secondary if you're getting started.

I liked the feel of the Nikons - big hands

If Canon feels better for you, got for it. Do it. You're never going to feel happy wandering around taking photos if the camera is uncomfortable to hold, and the chances of you grabbing the camera when you are on your way out just to the shops or walking the dog will be a lot better if you enjoy using it!

Thanks to the who stole one of my cars (and D90) back in June, I've made the same swap, the cannon doesnt feel as solid as the Nikon, but I am getting better (for me) results out of it than the Nikon

Ok thanks for all replies. Pleased to see it's not a down grade as such. Shame it's not that size with weather sealing and magnesium alloy but I'm sure that won't matter. Now to force myself to give up the Nikon 50mm AF-D 1.8!!

As luck would have it I'm away with work on Monday so I'll check out the duty free prices.

If you could manage the extra cost, I would suggest the Canon 50D. That's the camera I shall be upgrading to from my 450D.
