Camera repairs...

My wife's little Pentax Optio P70, which is only about 18 months old but out of warrenty, hase gone FUBAR. After a few seconds of use the sensor breaks up, so both the screen and the captured photographs are just a mess of coloured lines.
I took it into Jessops, for them to post off to a service centre, but the lad there informed me that the cost of repair was likely to be £100 or more - which makes buying a new one cheaper.
Are there any recommended independent places around that might be able to repair it cheaper or give me a FOC quote so that if it is in the region quoted we can just get a new one? I've found one that states it operates in my area (Bournemouth) but there is no local address and they offer a courier collection services which makes me wonder if they are actually local.
