Which compact?

The title says it all really. I read the reviews and a year or so back replaced my dead Sony with the Fuji F200EXR, a camera very highly recommended at the time. It has turned out to be a heap of poo; battery life just over 100 shots; pictures, especially with flash, so grainy as to be unusable, and really in anything but perfect light fairly useless.

So what I need is a pocket-size travelling camera that has a wide angle - say 24/100 - lens, and which can take good pictures, even with flash. I don't need something with manual override like the Lumix LX3, which is a bit bulky and anyway, if I am after this level of control then I'll use the DSLR, but something that I can carry in the glove box or my pocket wherever I go.

So over to you. What would you recommend?
