My wife broke my nifty fifty.... :(

I handed over my 50mm f/1.8 lens to my wife and being a total butter-fingers, she dropped it and the lens landed in such a way that she knackered the focus mechanism inside the lens. Basically it no longer works and there are loose pieces inside the casing....

So, before I head off to Colombia on my honeymoon, I need to get another prime. Ideally, I'd like the 24mm f/1.4L but that's some way off my budget having spent several times that on the holiday.

Can anyone offer some suitable alternatives?

Criteria:

- For Canon 40D
- Must be below 50mm
- Must be f/1.8 or better
- 2nd hand or new is fine but around 300-400eur would be ok, although that is pushing things a bit!
