Thinking of downgrading

Hi all, as the title suggests I'm thinking of downgrading from a DSLR to a compact.
Currently have a Canon 40D but in the last year or so have found myself not taking it out as much as I should.
I think about it then say to myself "nah can't be arsed, too big to lug around"
To cut a long story short, I'm considering bunging all my stuff on ebay and buying a decent compact.
Currently have,
Canon 40D & Grip
EF24-105mm F4L
EF400mm F5.6L
EF50mm F1.8
Sigma 10-20
Tamron SP90
Really want something as close to a DSLR as I can without it being a chore to carry around.
Full manual, remote shutter release capability etc.
I know I would take more photos as a result, oh and I maybe want to buy an old Honda dominator or transalp with the funds.
Looking at the usual suspects, G12 / Lumix et...any suggestions...am I mad ????

Have you considered selling off just the lenses in favour of something the Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM?
It's tiny, ways next to nothing and gives you that very long zoom range. OK, that plus a 40D body is still going to be bigger than a compact, but it still gives you most of the convenience, and could you really handle going back to just a compact alone?

When I want something light and portable, I throw a 50mm lens on and ditch the battery grip - it makes a world of difference.
When I want something really light and portable I use the LX3 however I must admit I've never quite been satisfied with the shots it takes. They are perfectly good but the loss of DoF and increased noise always seems to spoil some of the magic.
It really does depend what you are after though... if it's just to get snaps of the family and friends then a portable is great. If it's to get creative then an SLR or EVIL are the best options by far.

Whilst a wonderful idea, in general it would also mean downgrade to the number of kidneys he has. Seriously, I was thinking the OP would have the budget if he sold the current equipment.
