The house. There is a Ur-Quattro and Noble M400 buried under there somewhere

A gate. The snow was just amazing in how it was "hanging" in that big curve down the bottom

The nearby field. Not a soul (animal or human) had left any tracks

Thanks for the tips! The photo's are all untouched as I haven't had time to do anything with them. It was a stunning day when I set off to take some photo's but as usual by the time I'd found anything interesting as subjects the sun had gone. The church is one of the most striking I've seen, it's in the Yorkshire village of Coxwold.

Amazing frosts down our way this morning as well, but didn't have time to take any. Those are cracking shots, love the sun in 3.

me too.

How is that photo exposed?
Beautifully lit colours across the whole picture ..... how?
Why is the sun and sky burnt out?
Why is the foreground not dark?
how much processing has been done out of the camera?

forgive the questions just love to understand the technique used as I cant manage anything near that quality.

Don't know how Mark achieved his but this is exactly the sort of shot where a GND (graduated neutral density) filter comes in to its own. Looking at the bottom right hand corner there's some crescent-shaped lens flare which is often a sign of filter use (but can also just be an effect of shooting in to the sun).

ETA cracking shot Mark, and the ampersand in your name prevents quoting R&J

Luck more than anything!

Nikon D90/Tokina 11-16 f2.8 - my only lens no filter! I tweaked the colour balance (added some blue) and adjusted the curves using GIMP.

Full exif info under 'actions' on the Flickr page.

(ND filters are my shopping list for next year)

After the last couple of weeks worth of snow here in Aachen, it looked like it was going to actually melt a bit this morning, and then by lunchtime we were back in full-blown blizzard mode again!

Funny you should say that Simpo. I actually did this as part of "sample" series for W H Smith. I've been so excited this week (sad ol' git), because they contacted about a stock image of mine that they had seen and said they needed some similar images for greetings cards. Fame at last (potentially!).
