Quick one about re-sizing

Had a photo shoot with my lady.

Trying to pick sizes for the prints with the intention of having them scannned at a professional place and blown up onto canvas or justmade generally larger.

This may be a stupid question, but will a bigger print yeals a better image once enlarged?

I ask because the price difference is huge from one size to another.

Are you shooting on film?

I'm not sure why you would print something out then scan it?

If you are shooting digital then you should simply send the image file to whoever you are going to use for the final canvas.

If you are shooting film, I'm not sure but I think it would be best to scan the negative and then send that for final printing.

So you want to buy the cheapest thing possible from the photographer and then get the size you want on the cheap?

I'm guessing he has had a pro shoot done, doesn't want to pay the stupid prices for big prints and wants to buy small, get them scanned and then printed large.

In short the image quality will depend upon quality of original print, scanner resolution, file type and final print size. So may variables there but in essence the quality will degrade each time a conversion takes place. Could tidy it up in photoshop though.

Assuming Ian is right, then no. You can take detail away but you can't add it. So you can't scan a 6x4 print, blow it up to 30x20 and expect it to look like a 30x20 print from the original film/image.
