I have a large picture that needs digitising - Advice?

I've got an A3 print that I need to get off the paper and onto the computer. I have an A4 Scanner, so it might be feasible to scan it in two or three sections and stitch, but I was wondering if I could get good results using my Nikon D80? The print will be shrunk down to fit as part of a leaflet, so overall resolution shouldn't be a problem.

So how do I go about taking the shot so that it works as well as it can?

I've done it by sticking the print flat on the wall (blu-tack!) or lay it flat on the floor. Natural day-light worked the best. If it's a glossy print, watch out for the reflection. Don't use too wide lens as it may cause distortion.

Certainly worth a go. Use a longish lens, make sure the ligting is even and that you're bang on the centre line to minimise distortion. Press the button = digitised!

Shoot RAW because you may well find the colours change.

Given it a go, tripod, no flash, seems to have come out fairly well, will be fine at the print size that I'm after. Cool.
