Better Scanning FAO Ehasler!
Discussion
Hi Guys/Ed,
My Better Scanning film mount arrived today and I've got it set up now. The main advantages over the OEM holders are that it has a large sheet of anti newton ring glass to mount the film on to keep it flat, the build quality is in a different league and it is very finely height adjustable!
Here are some shots illustrating the results. I think they are pretty amazing. The shot was taken with my 503cw blad and a 120mm Makro. For anyone who is interested in guitars this is an original '63 strat in sonic blue. That might mean something to someone.
Here is the first set at the normal mount height recommended by epson. No colour correction or USM. This is a crop at 100%

Here is that same crop of a different scan with the height adjusted..I think I raised it by 1.4mm, 0.2mm at a time until I found the sharpest point. The difference is amazing:

Here is the whole pic. I've added a wee bit of USM as I shrunk the file size.

I'm really pleased with this thing. I can finally get pro quality scans at home with minimal fuss! Prepare for a deluge...

That's a very good year in a very good colour - and I'm very envious .....
..... but (on my monitor
) and I know 'sonic' is very pale .....the colour temperature looks far too 'warm'.
