Video Editing Software

I have recently treated myself to a new Panasonic HD camcorder which I've been playing with for the last few weeks or so (very pleased)! I know want to experiment with editing videos etc and was therefore wondering what software you would recommend (suitable for a amateur) and preferably free or with a minimum cost!

Any suggests or your own feedback on what software you guys use would be great to read.... THANKS

I assume on windows?

Try windows movie maker live for a 1st go , if you cant get that to do what you want then move on to something $.

Yes windows is my operating system... Will certainly give the windows movie maker a go.

Any other suggestions from previous experience?
