Idea - short duration competitions?

Has this been thought of before? I was thinking the other day that I really should exlore the photographic possibilities around me a bit more and was wondering what would motivate me to do that. Then I thought what about a photography competition that forces you to only use the things around you to create your shot by using time as a limiting factor.

For example, what if you only had two hours from getting the subject of the competition to the competition deadline. It would force me and others like me to interact with their environment a bit more than they have already and maybe see things in their local area that they may have missed previously. Perhaps run it every weekend on a Saturday morning at a particular time and anyone at a loose end could go out and try to find something that fits the theme. There wouldn't be time for too much post processing, or you could decide to stay very close to home and use the time you would have spent travelling doing some manipulation. That might be an interesting trade off.

What do you all think? Is this is a silly idea or does it have legs?

Sounds like a good idea to me, although I am always crap at knuckling down and getting on with soemthing like that and being there for the right time!

I do this on another forum, 30min challenge from posted idea to finish.

Its quite a lot of fun but 30min only realy gives you chance to try 1 or 2 ideas and shove them at photobucket, if it doesnt work out your stuffed. Tho typicaly its usualy more like 45min when alls done.

We have apoll and only entrants can vote - winner picks next weeks.

Though I won last week and have changed it for this week to a 24hr one to open it up to some other peple for a change.

I knew someone else must have thought of this already. I like the idea of everyone voting to decided the winner. 30 minutes seems a bit short to me too though. I think it'd be less fun to to rush around quite so much. A couple of hours feels about right to me but we could see how it goes the first week.
