Which Camcorder

My present camcorder uses mini tapes, which was great 8 years ago....... so I need a new one, maximum budget £200(which should buy something decent).

It will be used for filming the kids, and must also be compact enough to hand-hold when boarding.

I'm presuming a hard drive or memory stick is the way to go?

Kodak Zi8. 1080p HD, records onto SDHC cards, has it's own USB plug tucked away so you can download anywhere without having to take a separate cable around with you.

Very light wee device too. Useless in anything that isn't normal daylight though.

Comes in at less than £130 too.

To be honest I'd stick with the DV tapes unless you're spending at least double that.

Things have probably come on quite a bit since I looked a couple of years ago and ended up spending £260 on this:

I tried a couple of SD card camcorders (from QVC - easy to send back) and wasn't impressed at all, plus I found the 'backing' off a bit of a bind.
Get yourself signed up and test out a few - I think you have 30 days in which to send it back.

I'd rather have a box of DV tapes that I put onto DVD's every now and again - no editing, warts and all - too much family normalness/madness is missed when doing fancy edits.

Although this was a couple of years ago now and all this is now probably complete bkss - and I'll get back in me cave!
