Tamron 18-270 Lens

I have a Canon 450D with both 18-55 and the 55-250 kit lenses, which I have to say are both great lenses for the money. An upgrade is on the cards and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Tamron 18-270 VC, which would cover the range of both of my current lenses?

No experience of it but Photozone suggest that it would be lower quality than your current setup.

Jack of all trades, master of none usually applies with all of these superzooms.

I'm deeply cynical too - but I'd love to be able to take just one lens on holiday and be confident it would do a reasonable job at anything I ask of it - So I'd ve very happy to be proved wrong.

I too was thinking of one lens to cover the range of my current kit and the Tamron 18-270 covers that.

When reading reviews, I always read between the lines and then ask someone who has experience using the product everyday, hence my original post.

i can't speak for this new lens but i did make the mistake of buying the previous 18-250mm version. It was ok, but never managed particularly sharp shots.
I guess you could argue that any shot is better than getting no photo at all (because you have wrong lens on) but i grew tired of the poor quality pretty quickly and sold it on.

Interesting topic... I was looking at a Canon 18-200 the other day and was pointed at the Tamron 18-270 by the salesman.

I'm after something to replace my Canon kit lens 18-55 and already have a Tamon 70-300.

Typically I tend to take pics between 18-150mm so was considering either a 18-200 or 16-135.

Saying that a couple of people have recommended the Canon 55-250

I bought the Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-f/5.6 IS USM used for £200 as a general lens and it's brilliant, very good, easy to use. The colour seems much better than the 18-55 IS too, as well as being much sharper.

As I said in my OP, I have both the 18-55 and 55-250 kit lenses, but find the colour and sharpness better with 55-250. I find I have to tweak pics taken with the 18-55 in pp a bit more, maybe I have a bad lens, they are both IS. The 18-55 came boxed with the camera and the 55-250 was purchased later, not sure whether that has any significance.

Well, mine arrived today and after a day of using it I've already decided to offload. Autofocus was dreadful, images were nowhere near sharp. I didn't buy this lens expecting top quality but even for a budget lens this was disappointing.

An interesting point re your problems. A guy on the thread that I posted a link to earlier had a very similar problem with the lens, he swapped it for a new one which was fine. The first lens serial number was 8****** and the second was 12*****, maybe a later version.
