My canon 10-22mm was caught in a severe downpour 2 days ago.

It was inside a sack which unfortunately was not water proof.

I have left it in a warm dry place for the moment but the autofocus has not recovered.

Does anyone know of anywhere that will sort this out? I am in SW London but am happy to mail it.
Preferably at a reasonable price.

Thanks in advance.

I believe the canon centre is in colchester/chelmsford

They would be your best bet.

edit - http://www.camera-repair.co.uk/

I do not know whether they will repair lenses.

Canon themselves might be a good bet.

Canon do fixed priced repairs.

A friend of mine needed a new IS unit on a 17-55 2.8 and it cost her a fraction over a hundred quid all in. Plus they serviced the lens fully and warrantied it for six months.

I've used several 'so called' Uk Canon agents to repair Canon kit and have always had problems with them, I suggest you stick to the official UK canon service centre, I've used them twice & always had good servicethumbup

Cant complain with that! Sounds like a great deal. Did she just contact Canon directly?

Bear in mind that, if the lens got a good soaking, with water making its way deep inside, 2 days might not be long enough drying time. I spent a week drying a mobile phone after it went swimming in the kitchen sink - although it was mostly functional after 2 days, the screen and keypad still had intermittent glitches which didn't go away for another 4-5 days.

You Canon lads certainly have fun with getting your gear wet - damp lenses, drowned 5d Mk2's etc (sorry John!), us poor Nikon users don't seem to have anywhere near the problem of you CANON users, isn't it time you stopped going out in the rain or within a mile of the sea and just left that side of photography to those of us who use NIKON wink

(with tongue firmly in cheek)

hehe

When I've had any wet gear its taken a full weeek to fully dry out. And that was left in a warm place.

Yup, she went direct through the Canon service centre. She initially thought the lens would be a write off. Pretty good price I thought.

Thanks again for the above.

With regard to the drying time I am planning to leave it for a full week in the airing cupboard before testing again.

I was just preparing myself for the worst!

Just an update.

Lens never recovered so I sent it off to www.fixationuk.com.

One new USM and a service for £138.56 inc VAT and special delivery.

This was lower than their original quote.

First impressions are that AF works a damn sight better than before it got wet, very pleased so far. 90 day warranty as they seem to be essentially for the pro crowd and prioritise their work.

Shows that mass produced lenses after a personal tinkering can be better than new, this is fairly typical.

They did a great job on my 17-55 f2.8 Nikkor which found itself somewhat disarranged after losing a battle with Isaac Newton.
