does anyone know how I can upload a gallery to flickr and then allow certain people to see it - but without them having to have a yahoo id?

when I upload and pass on the URL it asks them to create a yahoo account which is not what I want.

thanks in advance

No you can't unfortunately, since Yahoo bought Flickr the signup is via Yahoo.

What's the issue with having a Yahoo?
I have five flickr accounts and five Yahoo IDs but never use the IDs.

I do not mind having a yahoo account myself, it just seems a bit much for people to have to create a yahoo account just to see some photos I want to share with them.

Maybe I should explain what I want to do.

I have 30 or so photos from my son's birthday party, I want to make them available to all parents, etc but with some privacy, ideally I could send out a link they could use and see them directly without having to register for a yahoo id?

I like Smugmug. You can password protect and hide galleries.

Two week free trial too.....

It is possible. Flickr will generate a 'special' URL for you to email to your friends. It is not proper security but it does mean you can share private galleries without having people log om. You need to create a guest pass for the set.

On the set page click "Share This" in the top right and then click "Grab the Link". If some of the pictures in the set are not public then it will say "Add a Guest Pass". You can then email the URL out yourself.

www.PhotoBox.co.uk can do this for you and hide the gallery behind password protection. Plus your viewers can order their own prints straight from the site. Even has flickr integration so if your flickr uploads are hi-res PhotoBox will grab them right over (it'll do it for any res but the printing won't be as good). If you didn't want people to order I *think* that's an option too.

One thing to beware of if doing this is that part of the upload/ import process seems to change the filenames so what appears to be DSC_1234.jpg on flickr will become g56hhjcoo98077tgjhlk_76ghf.jpg by the time it gets to photobox. If this matters and you need to direct people towards specific images, import them one at a time to keep track of the name changes.

Or Photobucket.

You can create an album and make it password protected.
