I thought the general rule of thumb with memory cards is that they get cheaper. Thought I'd check out the latest prices recently and came across this baby.

Are they seriously taking the michael. Sorry to everyone with this name lol.
They just seem to get bigger, faster and hence more expensive.

The price gets a lot higher when the cards start getting quicker.

I find that my 30MB/S card is fine in a 7D for HD movies and the 8fps shooting.

Like-for-like, it does get cheaper, but of course the newest, biggest, fastest cards are very expensive.

Also, that shop seems quite expensive for memory cards.

That's about the biggest fastest card you can get.

In 2004 a top-brand 1Gb 40x card was £250...

Yes I saw that one too. I suppose shooting in raw hurts the cards' data transfer rates too.
I guess you have all seen the cheap Hong Kong ones on Ebay. Some are not from there too. Anything
wrong with going that route? I guess your warranty would be null and void if you did that.
Where would you people suggest?

Also is buying a second hand camera ever a good idea, if you didn't know the person before?
I've always been a buy it new or not at all kind of person. But when you want this as expensive as these, you can save yourself a packet. The only problem is that not many people will want to sell a 5Dmk2 I would have thought.

Go ahead buy a Cheap card. Just don't expect it to take anymore than 2 photos in a burst before it has to buffer.

I wouldn't buy from eBay unless I was dead certain that it was a reputable seller. Play, Amazon and 7dayshop are three online shops that have a good reputation and low prices for memory cards. This looks good for example:

Buying camera equipment second-hand has the same risks as buying anything second-hand; it's up to you whether the savings are worth it. I've bought my camera and some other kit second-hand and haven't had any problems yet, but that's not to say something you buy won't fail catastrophically on the first day.

Sorry I may have caused a bit of confusion. I meant that I could buy a good quality memory card from ebay (the 90Mb/sec), but at a cheaper price. This looks ok though:

I'd be happy to buy a camera second hand, if I knew and trusted the owner. Those ones on ebay from the cannon shop. It puzzles me as the seem to go for nearly retail price. If it was me I'd rather spend the extra £200 and buy new.
