I have decided to buy a D90, but am struggling with where to buy it. There are some pretty cheap kits floating about on E-Bay from U.K suppliers, but I dont know whether to trust them or not.

Can anyone reccommend someone reputable, that dont charge high street prices? At the moment, Jessops are offering the body only for £630, which is probably the most tempting.

I'm also undecided on what lense to buy with the camera. Initially I will need a lense that will cover F1, Moto GP, Wedding's and general landscape shots. I am probably going to go with an 18 - 200 Lens, but then what make of lense becomes another issue. I would prefer to get a Nikon lense, but Tamron do this same lense for about £169, compared to £549. I have heard some good things about Tamron lenses, but the guy in Jessops thinks it will reduce the picture quality substantially?

Obviously as time goes on, I will buy more lenses to cater better for these scenario's. I just think the 18 - 200 probably ticks the most boxes to get me started. Could be wrong though??

Any advice and info would be much appreciated. As mentioned above, I'm set on getting a D90, so it's just shop and lense advice im after.

Many Thanks

Park Cameras are listing body only for £599.

Check out Camerapricebuster for different suppliers.

www.mpbphotographic.co.uk sell used cameras if you're interested. I've ordered a Canon 500d for around £100 less than new price.
I don't know what the service is like yet though as I'm still offshore (and getting impatient).

I've got the Nikon D90 from Amzon a year or so ago and (if you can get your hands on it) it is a very good camera. I bought mine with the 18-105mm kit lens which produces some excellent results. My better half bought me the 14-24mm F2.8 (amazing lens although I'm still learning how best to use it!!!) for Christmas and I recently bought the 18-200 VRII Nikkor lens - which is great as a general 'walkabout' lens which I used extensively on holiday.

I bought the 18-200mm lens on eBay for around £400.

One option may be, if you're off on holiday soon, is Dixons duty free at the airport?

Good luck with the purchase!

Funny you should say that. I bought a D3000 in duty free on the 1st July, but decided on holiday I wanted a D90 instead. So I returned the D3000, and now I'm looking for a D90.

A lot of places i have talked to say they haven't got the camera in stock, but say they can get it, so I dont think there are availability issues with it.

It's looking like I'll go for the Nikon 18 - 200 lens. Might see if I can strike a deal with Jessops over the next day or two. They do interest free repayment plans, so that sounds quite tempting.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.

Blimey that's a generous missus you have, but that lens is a little wasted on your D90. Perhaps she's planning a D3 for your birthday? idea

Go D300s instead if you can stretch to it

The tamron lens is junk very cheap and plasticky.

Bought my D90 from dixons duty free and my 18-200 lens in the states mail order for around £300 when the £ was strong against the dollar.

Dont spoil the d90 with cheap glass, it is without doubt the most important part.

I appreciate the nikkor lens has its weak points and that compared to other kit it is cheap but i am delighted with my combination.

I was looking for a deal on the D90 recently and wanted to buy from a UK AD. I think camerabox were offering about £50 off the D90/18-105mm kit, but were out of stock 2 weeks ago when I wanted it. Jessops had the camera in, but with the 18-55mm lens as supplied with the D3000 and D5000. They said that Nikon had changed the lens, and that all the incoming stock was with the 18-55mm lens. I called around a few places looking for a boxed (non-display) item with the correct lens. I ended up paying about £850(from PC World) for the camera a good 8GB card and a Lowe Pro camera bag. Bugger all discount, but I got the camera I wanted and I think the camera is worth every penny I spent.

Currys Digital at Gatwick north terminal had the D90/18-105mm at around £750......

Happy to take credit for that one! bowtie Let us know how it pans out!

But seriously, you really need to shoot full frame with the 14-24 to see what it's capable of!

Apols to the OP for going off-piste.
