Having just bought a Panasonic Lumix I`m having some problems getting the movies onto my PC.

With my old Cybershot it was just a case of connecting it up and moving them. The Lumix wants me to do this via Panasonic Photofun which I find awkward to use.

Is there anyway I can just get them on without using Photofun?

Are they HD movies?

My Lumix FZ38 records in HD, and subsequently I need to use the Panny software to view them. Haven't found any way around this yet!

what OS are you using? when i plug my gf's Lumix into my PC running windows 7. The HD movies play straight away on media player. No plugins or anything installed?

Hi, try using VLC media player, it's free, not resource hungry and seems to work on just about everything!
Once you've uploaded images to your PC , right click the vid file, open with VLC media player.
Works in XP and Win 7

Can you take the memory card out and plug it into the PC? You should then simply see the files on the card.

Thanks for all your replies!

I`ll try to answer some of the questions....

Yep, the movies are in HD.

I`m using windows 7.

I have no idea what VLC media player is, can I just down load it?

I can`t plug the SD into my PC I`m afraid.

I have managed to do it but it`s a bit of a PITA to be honest. Everything was easier with my cybershot....

Surely once you connect the camera, it is only a case of dragging the files off to move them onto your PC?
Is this what you are having a problem with or the playing of them?
And are we talking just the pics or the HD movies?

It`s just the films that are causing dramas. They will not play through anything apart from Photofun which I find especially clumsy. I can get them on the PC reasonably easily, it`s the playback that`s not userfriendly.

The stills are very good and the quality of the films is a lot better than my old Sony (circa 2002!) but I just find using Photofun time consuming.

Panasonic use the AVCHD codec, which can be fussy at times, it depends what you are trying to play it with.

If you want to read up http://www.avchdplayer.com/ will teach you everything you need to know.

Otherwise have a look for the VLC Media player and make sure it's the default player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

VLC is pretty good, it tends to tie with Media Player Classic Home Cinema for playback.
