VHS onto DVD - the best way?

Anyone tried this? If so, what's the best way?

I've seen places charging twenty odd quid where you send them the tapes and they do the job for you etc.

...anyone had experience of their own?

If you have a VCR and a DVD recorder you can simply connect them up and press play on one and record on the other.

Or you can buy all-in-one units.

It's ok, not to fiddly to set up (I'm using W7 64-bit and it works fine) and you can do a certain amount of editing.

You may be disappointed with the quality though. Many years of watching dvds and now blu-rays have spoiled me and you may find that the picture looks total ste. Also, I'd watch the vids through first if you can as I started to record one video and halfway through the recording the tape quality seriously degraded putting paid to that transfer session!

20 quid seems steep, me and my family have used www.vhsontodvd.com before. I think we paid less than £20 quid and didnt get any problms.
