What software to download from card into date folders?
Discussion
As title - I just want a lightweight bit of software to download images off my memory card. I want them to be put into folders in a directory according to the date when they were shot. I then want the software to automatically empty the card once all the images are downloaded. I don't need the software to do anything else beyond this point.
Please recommend me some free software to do this!

I want one folder per date.
You can create several folders, name them by date and transfer image files accordingly, but I agree it is several steps. So, what was the Canon software called (as I can't remember) and where can I get it, or something like it? (Was it 'camerawindow' or something equally weird?)

Really? You don't format the card within the camera? That's the fastest way to get file/card corruption...
I do, but the OP merely said he wanted to 'empty the card'. Formatting is also quicker, despatching 4Gb in 2-3 secs. I don't know any software that does it automatically
I take photos from several different cameras and rename all individual photos to include the date and a sequence number, based on the camera, and I use this - which does the job really well -

Photo Mechanic is very good at this. It is not free, but is by far the fastest and most efficient way of downloading from card, sorting, captioning and editing large numbers of photos that I have ever used.
