I hope not - I just bought the current one last month.
I'm really happy with it.
In reality I use the viewfinder all the time not the live view - but part of the reason I wanted live view and the vari angle screen is for shooting end of term plays etc where you have to stay sitting down but need to lift the camera up to get a decent shot.

I think it's great. If I could have justified spending the extra I'd have gone for the D90 but I bought mine when the D5000 first came out and they were both REALLY expensive! I took a few photos last week, you can see them here:

Really pleased with it. It's a fantastic camera for the money and the size of it. It's tiny! Also I just found out it has a built in time lapse feature. I tested it the other day here:

Watch it in HD.

I have one, but wish I went for the D90 instead, as there are a greater number of auto focus lenses available at each price point.
The D5000 is restricted to AFS only if you want to enable autofocus, (AFAIK as there is no screw mechanism on the D40/D60/D3000 or D5000)

Yep, that's the only downside.

I bought the 16-85mm VRII and the 70-300mm VRII AF-Slenses though and they're both great.

It's ok, not great. Not really used it much to be honest. I'll see if I can upload one to Youtube

Here's a quick video I made with iMovie (my first ever effort!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0qhaNRe7cc

Youtube says it's still processing the HD video so wait an hour and it should be up in HD. I've never made videos before so excuse the too fast panning and the wobbly camera holding!! Enjoy....

Oh, I think the last part of that video was filmed on my girlfriends little Panasonic point and shoot not the D5000, but the sailing parts were definately filmed on the D5000
