GPS Dataloggers

Hi,

does anyone here use a GPS Data logger and if so, which one?

I've been looking around at different options and can't quite decide which to go for. It seems to boil down to:

iGotU 120 - cheap, cheerful, water resistant, but special cable / charger. Says it stores a lot of points, but the software can only use 700 of those points.
IGotU GT200e - same as above, although more expensive and can be used as a navigation unit as well as a logger.
QStarz BT1000 - seemingly expensive version of the iGotU but with miniUSB?
Acomb GL3080 - stores in plain text, acts as a usb drive, 3x AAA batteries, but big and bulky.
PhotoTrackR - apparently doesn't work well inside pockets, bags etc. battery life isn't that great either and build quality leaves a bit to be desired.


So, does anyone have any opinions or a different option? I'm undecided between the Acomb and the iGotU series

I had a terrible experience with IGotU. It would have problems in initializing than stopped working altogether after a week of use.

I've got a gisteq cd111. I needed one that works with mac and this is great. It needs the gisteq software to get the track off it and this can be exported as a gps file to be used with any other geotagging software or use the included gisteq software to geotagg.

It picks up signal quickly and has a rechargable 30 hour battery.

tHoroughly recommnd it. Bit hard to get hold of though. Works with mac and pc

A friend has a iGotU and hasn't had any troubles - there are plenty of horror stories for all the different types tbh.

The GisTeq ones were bought out / licenced by PhotoTrackR - they sell the CD111 nowadays

Thats the other one - the Bluemax 4044. I've read that the build quality leaves a little to be desired on it, but it's meant to be quite good...

Have you got a example AMOD NMEA file?

I got the file which was ok, the data rate would be fine for photography buy at a max of 1Hz is too slow for track data logging.
