Hi Guys

Quick question, when travelling abroad, what kit do you take. I'd rather take as little as possible if truth be known and the complete camera bag is a no no.

No obviously I have to take the camera but what lenses?

My kit consists of, a rather large tamron 70-300mm, Kit lens 18-55mm, Sigma 10-20mm and a nifty 50 (Which to be honest is so small it would be stupid not to take it). Its only tenerife so I assuming not much to take snaps of.

Over to you

Scott

Depends how much you mind losing an unexpected opportunity. Better to have a lens and not use it, than not to take and then wish you had.

It's a personal thing of course but on my NZ tour the split was something like:

18-70mm: 90%
70-300mm: 8%
50mm: 1%
60mm macro: 1%

I'd say take the kit lens. It's pretty versatile and you can just keep it on the camera.

That doesn't surprise me. It's not so much the travel just when I am there lugging the kit around with me where ever I go.

I think I will leave the 70-300mm purely due to size. Knowing my luck there will be a guy riding dolphins barefoot at 55mm away though ....

Indeed, you can either be a photographer or a holidaymaker smile That said if you keep the bag in the boot then all the clobber is close to hand but not round your neck. 'Course if you're doing Everest then you'll have to carry it, or maybe get a sherpa... the bit I drew the line at though was a tripod. Instead I bought a wibbly wobbly travel tripod which just about held the camera off the ground but did at least allow me to try some night shots and 'smooth water' ideas.

Which reminds me. My wibbly Wobbly small pod is at the office ....

I'm actually on a short weekend break now.
My standard travel kit - 450D, 18-200mm, 50mm 1.4, three batteries, smallest tripod that will hold my camera (I got some £8 wonder from ebay that does the job pretty well), remote control for those shaky situations, all of those tucked up neatly in Loewepro
FastPack 200.
Does the job very well!

I always take as much as I can fit in my camera bag, which I always take as hand luggage.

That consists of:

50D
Nifty 50
70-200 2.8L
24-70 2.8L
10-20 Sigma
1.4x II
Flash
4 cards
Remote
Spare batteries
Chargers etc
and a tripod on the outside.

When I had my 150-500 I'd also take that!

If I'm driving I also take my macro stuff as well.

Loads of kit and loads of weight but I'd rather have it than not.

It's always a difficult one!

I'm just off for ten days in the Scilly Isles. Not primarily a photography trip, and limited to what I can carry on trains and boats.

Body, spare battery (turn off auto-chimping), four cards, 17-35mm, 70-200mm (footless), TC-1.4, 50mm f/1.4 "nifty" and a polarbeariser that fits the first two lenses. (No tripod, no l-plates, no flashes (and stands, remotes etc), no micro lens, no battery charger, nothing to view on.)

But at the end of the month it's even worse. I'm on a bike with two small panniers and a tank bag for a ten day ride out to the Pyrenees. I really wanted to take a camera bag with 17-35mm and 105mm, polarbeariser, 50mm and one flash. At the moment I can see it being body, 4 cards, 45mm pancake and spare battery!

Even that will be packed away and won't be an easy find in a two minute stop, so I can see me carrying it and missing zillions of shots!
