Can any of you Photography buff's recommend a good compact digital camera offering idiot proof operation.
Need something for everyday snaps of the kids and holiday pic's etc that doesn't have a million different settings for different light conditions etc.
Best if its small enough to fit in a pocket, small rucksack pouch.
Ability to take short video clips with sound would also be a bonus, especially if you don't need much in the way of specialist software for transferring data / watching on PC.
Much cheapness is always good (I'm Scottish after all) but willing to pay for something that meets the above credentials.
Wasn't impressed with last Olypmus camera, long delay between pushing the button and picture getting taken, poor quality pics in dodgy light. Previous Fuji Finepix was much better, great pictures in all light conditions, including bright clear days on alpine ski resorts.

Thanks for any advice.

I'd recommend a Canon IXUS 95. This camera is pretty quick, has a full auto setting and allows some manual operations if required. The Canon is about £130, if you want to go cheaper you can pick up something similar like a Nikon Coolpix for under £100. My kids have both of these models and they do produce some good results.

Look into:
Fuji j210w £79
nikon s225 £90
canon 100is £160

all very good, easy to use and well prices cameras. All prices are from memory from work today.

if you can relax your grip on your wallet for a few seconds... Canon S90 would tick all of your boxes.
