Okay, here are my fledgling attempts at photography. Is this photo too dark? I tried to think about the rule of thirds but don't think I've quite achieved it. Any feedback would be welcome.

Edited to remove the troublesome link. Picture below

Well the 'white box with a red cross in it' approach is quite unique, but i think it lacks a certain something. Maybe if you move the red cross to the left or right a bit to get it more on the thirds - its currently slap bang in the middle.....

Well for my money I think you should have got lower down, I think you need more car in it, perhaps stepping back a bit to get lots of scenery too?

I can see it and the link is exactly as I posted it earlier. Now I'm really confused!

Thanks Darren, that's exactly the same view as mine. Well almost, I don't have the moderaters magic buttons!

Clutching at straws here... Do you have a photo hosting account with Pbase by any chance?

Nope. Don't know why I can see it then if others can't. Usually get this with Fotango, but I can't see those ones.

it's not my car

Point taken though, I had thought about seeing if i could do anything in with it in Photoshop. Decided it was too complicated!

After a bit of looking i think the picture is flat all the lines run across the pic. Therefore the viewer is not lead into the pic.Try to avoid horizontal lines running right acrross the middle of the pic, they sometimes work but not often

I think you're right Pies, I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong, the picture seemed a bit 'flat'.

IMHO I think it's not quite happy because you've got two focal points, both below the half-way mark - the centre of the car and the arch under the bridge. I think I'd have tried to get lower and/or closer to the car, so the roof of the car would be higher and break the bridge.

The good news is that you're thinking 'outside the box' - most people woudl just bung the car in the middle and press the button. You've also used shallow DoF (a great spin-off of long lenses) to help cut the car away from the b/g. Already, the car is looking like a sculpture than just a car.

If you're not happy with a composition, sometimes some bold cropping can help. This is my humble attempt to make an average shot look better, using cropping and some purple in the sky. (I've just realised all the lines go to one point!)

Nice picture, the converging lines are very good. Something I shall consider for the next batch.
