Taking the trackslag 328 Touring over to Rockingham for a trackday next Saturday, having never been does anyone know how close you can get to the track to take pictures? best spots? and such like.

will have a 70-200 f4 as of next week so thought rockingham would be a good start to test it out.

I didn't really venture too far into the infield the last time I was there, but there is an area by the wet-weather training area (the skid pans) which puts you nicely on the inside of a couple of corners which clear views of the cars.

It's roughly where the access road ends and the tarmac opens up into the skid pan areas.

Don't know about any other areas, but potentially you could try the banking alongside that road to catch the cars in the section just after then come off the banking.

Other than that, the roof of the pit buildings offers some good views, but you do need a decent zoom. You *may* struggle a bit with a max of only 200mm from up there, but you'll be OK in the infield.

I've been there a few times, the paddock is in the infield, so you'll get lots of pics of the start finish straight. Depends who you're with, they may let you stand on the trackside pit wall between the pit lane and straight.

I went there with Easytrack, Gold Track and Trackstar. Trackstar didn't let me stand on the pit wall, the other two did. Last time I was there a Fezza made the silly mistake of trying to follow my Caterham R500... needless to say, he wrote off his car in the process. yikes

Flat out towards the wall is something else... wear brown tousers!

Another couple of alternatives are from what they call the “school” pit lane at the back of the scrutineering bay/workshops, or from the back of the paddock towards the vehicle tunnel, with a reasonable length lens you can get some shots of the tarzan hairpin. Also good opportunities for some decent panning shots from above the pit garages on the main straight.
