Recomposing with a VR lens?
Discussion
I don't believe so at all.
Wherever you move the lens it should cope.
As far as I know the only VR downsides are battery drainage (which can be quite noticeable on a few hundred shots using a D2X and 70-200mm) and the fact that the lens will set up a series of vibrations such that on a tripod you'll actually create movement which wasn't there - hence switch it off.
(I'm actually not too sure whether you're better off with VR switched on or off on a monopod mind - a question I was thinking of asking this forum on a few days ago.....)
