At last - I've just ordered a DVD Recorder! (the under-the-telly type).

However, I'll need to get some recording media: it takes -R, -RW and RAM.

I've heard that success in recording can depend on the brand, so: will DVD-Rs of the type available cheaply for PCs work, or do I have to go to Comet etc and buy expensive ones? Same for -RW and RAM: can I buy cheap and get away with it, or will I regret it eventually?

All views appreciated.

I'd also be interested in this info, at present I'm on Sky + which is great, but I'd like to be able to burn stuff onto DVD to keep (but would like to keep Sky + as it's a no brainer - and I have no brain)

BTW - Which one did you get?

Toshiba DR-1. The main reason was that all my other AV kit is black, and this is the blackest one available! However, I've checked out as many details as I can (even had the poor guy in Comet open a box and go through the instructions!) and it will keep me amused just figuring out how to use it!

Eventually ordered it from Empire Direct. Now I just have to sit and wait for the big van

Try multiregionmagic.co.uk in peterborough for -r media. I us it all the time and pay just over a quid for it in an amway type case

But there's more to it than that: RAM, and to a lesser extent -RW, allow 'minidisc-style' editing - ie you can chop out the ads, trailers and other crud.

But the tech industry needs your money Pies! You really *need* a WAP-enabled Bluetooth mp3 i-Pod PDQ palmtop ADSL BluRay with Firewire, S-Video, Fruitbat (TM) and extra Spam, so you can pay the milk bill whilst traveling to work on the Underground, and send your ma a picture of you doing it for only 12p.

Don't you?

I use the cheap ones from Multireion all the time. They even come in a proper DVD cade not a jewel case. Never had a problem with them
