I got my kit from here...

http://www.cameragrip.co.uk/acatalog/Camcorder_Suc...

Good quality (Manfrotto etc.) and reasonably straightforward to set up.

Here are a couple of shots I got recently using the set-up....

Thanks Tim, great site.

I'm looking for a rig that will be able to fit in a full car in frame.

Like so

Thats exactly what this kit can do. Just bear in mind that the longer you extend the kit away from the car, the less stable it becomes (ie more propensity to camera shake at long exposures), and the more PS work you're creating for yourself.

Cheers Tim, suspected as much...

Is it a matter of purchasing longer poles the further you want away from the car?

O, and what speed is usualy the 'norm' for taking these shots - quite slow i presume?

I quite like the look of this one

(sorry for the daft questions)

I find normally about a second works, but of course it depends on the light - on a brightish day, you'll need to use filters to slow the speed down.

What you need is a rig that will fit 2 cars in the frame with lots of space around them, all at 28mm or even 35mm (wideangle sucks). My advice is to build your own as there's nothing on the market that will give you a 5+ metre extension unles you have tens of thousands to spend.

Thanks Richard, I was hoping you would chip in.

Going to have a play with a rig on Sunday and I suppose then I will actually know what i'm after (and know what I'm talking about wink )

I use a variation on this rig as well, its a very decent kit to get started from......

http://www.cameragrip.co.uk/acatalog/hague_sm8_car...

Essentially you can go two ways with a rig(outside of Move'n'shoot mega bucks stuff): either triangulate for rigidity, which this rig gives but with more photoshoppery to remove the rig; or you can have one long pole usually mounted with two cups for easier removal but more susceptibility to flexing

These were created using the first method:

I got this one after giving up building my own http://www.b-hague.co.uk/hague_telescopic_suction_...
Good quality and a doddle to set up and alter if required.

Here's a 4s exposure, I just let the hand brake off and was probably going less than walking pace.

This one was 6s and about the same speed but with the engine running (no hill to roll down smile ).

Scott.

Bit late to this. As an owner of a three pole/cup rig, I'd say work on a single pole setup. Can be done for much less money, and is much easier to 'shop out afterwards.

What pole are you using, do you have a link to the item from Screwfix?

Where are you mounting the suction pads on a caterham, I've looked at mine (not too hard mind you), but there's not too much flat stuff around to mount them on - surely the louvres get in the way, and the sides are behind the wheels. Or are you using a combinantion of a suction cups just in front of the engine and a clamp on the wheel struts?

Great shot btw
