Went and did a rally driving day at Castle Combe yesterday and there was an Audi track day going on so stayed and got a few photos.

This is my first attempt at trackday photography since getting the dSLR i think these few came out OK. C & C welcome.

They all look a bit soft, what kit you using? Are you panning with the vehicles?

well done - good first effort. Modern Audi's do look bland compared to the older stuff though... I duess that's true for most makes though.

Generally the three quarter shots work best. I try to get near a slow corner and then catch them under heavy braking or acceleration as they exit. Or if you were to stand at Quarry at CC - as they head for the tyre wall... it's worth having a look through the race mags and seeing what they print.

Have one on me...

Nice set for a first attempt Kevin! Panning does take a lot of practice and patience. Your shutter speed (and other settings) look pretty spot, although your shots do seem a little soft. I recon the softness is due to your first attempt at panning, nothing more. The more you practice the better it'll get! I can't see what lens you have from the exif on the shots, looks like a 200mm of sorts though. Could you post up which one you have? Does it have IS (image stabaliser)?

Here's one of my shots at the same settings as your first shot (as an example), I do frequent Knockhill every other week almost and have had plenty of practice.

Keep at it though, it'll be second nature soon!

Sorry missed this as been away on hols. The lens i used is one i borowed off my brother which is a Canon 80-200mm doesnt say any f numbers on it think it might be quite old. It also has a skylight filter on it.

Good first attempt, panning is pretty difficult.

I agree on the Porsche shot, too fast a shutter speed does nothing for me, you need to see the wheels and background moving.

Keep trying, you'll get better at it!

Mine certainly aren't perfect:

Its all a learning curve bud , i still get lots of blurry ones ....lol
And i tend to change the settings like tarts change their knickers.....just to see what happens to the shot .....

You will get better for sure , as they say Practise makes perfect ....
