Canon EF-S 17-50 f/2.8 IS Vs Sigma 10-20 & Sigma 18-50 EX f/2.8

Well after a year the time has come to upgrade from the soft kit lens that comes with the 450d. Unfortunately I can't stretch to L glass, so was going to get the 17-50 as reviews suggest almost of the same quality. But the thread about the 10-20 has given me a hankering for a UWA lens as well, as mostly do landscape/urban photography. It looks like I could get both the sigmas for the cost of the canon. smile

My only concern is the 18-50 sigma image quality compared to the canon I don't want to be looking to change again in 3 months, is anybody using this lens?

Checkout photozone.de review of the canon, sigma and tamron 17-50.

IMO the canon is well ahead but twice the price.

The Tamron is next - also due out with IS soon too.

Sigma isnt far behind the tamron and has better closer focusing if thats important.

The Sigma 10-20 is a popular choice. So if it's going to be part of your kit one day... why not now, I've told the wife Ive been saving for ages... and Im going shopping next weekend!!

Thanks for the link Rob, looks like the Tamron is the better choice of the 2 budget lenses, cheapest aswell. thumbup
