OK Guys and Gals I am looking for your help.
Debating buying the revised 18-200 VR Nikon lens as a walk about "out with teh family" sort of thing. as I sometimes want a bit more reach.
I have a 18-50 2.8 EX Sigma as my main lens at the moment and its damn good for the price point but just want that extra range as such. (Although indoors its pretty much perfect)
Also have a 70-300 Sigma APO DG but tend to prefer to not be changing lenses when out with the family as you tend to look a bit of a "geek"
So anyway my question is this ... looking at the reviews some says its fab lens some say its a little soft, given the other lenses in my set up would I suddenly find the 18-200 to be a bit poor, or is it mainly a case of "critical sharpness isnt perfect but bet you wouldnt notice".

I don't know whether it would be good enough for you, but I reckon you could buy one second hand then flog it on eBay for almost as much if you don't like it.

The Sigma equivalent rates as highly for image quality although is a slightly slower focus and stops to f/6.3 at the long end rather than f/5.6 for the Nikon. I bought the Sigma new and sold it for more after a couple of uses to get faster glass. Used both and there's not a lot in it (make sure you go for the OS version, the non-OS is described otherwise the same and is a bit of a dog)
