Looking to venture into prime glass/lenses. Both me and the missus are Canon dSLR users (30D and 450D) and hence cropped sensor.

Considering that the 50mm f1.4 will effectively becomes a 80mm, I am now considering the 35mm f1.2L as this will then become a "50mm" so to speak.

Anybody have either of these?

Ignoring the fact you're comparing a £200 lens to £1200 Iit depends on what you're shooting. I presume you already have a good zoom so you could go back through your meta data and find which MM you most often shoot at.

Have both 30mm F1.4 (sigma EX) and 50mm F1.8 (Nikon AFD) on a crop body. I very rarely use the 30mm, in fact most of the time I don't bother to take it with me. The tighter crop of the 50mm just works better for me.

The 35mm will give you the same angle of view on the crop and your eye the 50mm will give a very good and fast portrate lens. You can get 35mm at around F2 for the same money as the 50 F1.4 which may be worth considering.
