For flickr are you only supposed to upload your own photos, or can you just use it as a sort of central storage place for photos that you like?

I've had a look through their FAQs, but I just wondered how it really worked in practice.

99% of material seems to belong to the poster, you do occasionally get some picture collectors on there though. I think they will kick you off if someone reports you.

[quote]Don’t upload anything that isn't yours.
This includes other people's photos, video and/or stuff you've collected from around the Internet. Accounts that consist primarily of such collections may be terminated at any time.

It's pretty clear, and pretty fair

I also think it makes the place much better. I use Flickr only for photos of my own which I actually like. I use Photobucket when I want somewhere to host pictures of fat birds on tricycles or whatever.

Thanks guys, so it's pretty much frowned on then.

Furtive - I'd seen that rule, I was just trying to judge whether it was strictly enforced or whether it was just dusted off once in a blue moon to get them out of any legal difficulties.

It's not a big deal, it's just that I found someone has uploaded one of my photos which I'm guessing he found on the wikipedia article I attached it to. Up until then I'd thought it was just for your own stuff, but seeing that he had done that I wondered if I'd misunderstood the way the site worked day-to-day, as opposed to the exact rules. smile

Exactly, flickr is a photo community to discuss work. Something like photobucket can be used as a pump and dump ground for all the crap. Flickr only gets my picks (which is why I've about 5 photos on there from 2 years hehe), it angers me when people just empty their memory card on there!

My Flickr account just has my pictures on there which I want to show people which is why they're all nicely organised into sets, etc. Photobucket does exactly what it says on the tin, a bucket for photos smile
