Hi guys,

Does anyone know of any free alternatives to places like GettyImages?

I'm basically looking for high-res photo for a flyer but all I can find is websites where they want to charge me £400+! nuts

Sorry - you said royalty free. Must read more carefully.

There are quite a few microstock places such as iStockphoto.com

Try http://microstockinsider.com/ for tips (ok the site's aimed at photographer's looking to sell, but it might help)

If the budget is £0 (does your company sell anything for £0?) you could get a camera and take it yourself...?

The budget isn't £0 but I don't want to spend loads on a single photo.

I've just been looking on that istockphoto site and I've found a few I wouldn't mind paying for. Something like £12, seems fair.

Thanks for your help guys smile

What are you looking for? Why not open it to the floor here and see what happens...

As mentioned, www.istockphoto.com is good for cheap images. Beware that the price means they will be far from exclusive but that often doesn't matter.

www.sxc.hu has a lot of totally free stuff on it. I've used it a couple of times for minor things and mockups but I'm not sure what comeback you'd have if the image was misuploaded there.

Other microstock sites also worth a try are Shutterstock, Fotolia, Dreamstime, 123 Royalty Free and StockXpert.

Many "microstockers" submit to all the popular sites (so many images duplicated), but you will find that they have different pricing structures. Useful if you're looking for a "one off" rather than a subscription package.

Good Luck.

Or you could offer a trade/bartering option to the togs on here - what do you have to offer instead of the folding stuff that might get up some interest.

I've found Dreamstime the best so far. Gettyimages are a complete rip off. I can normally buy an image in high res for a few quid, if that. Some of them are free too.

Good idea. £12 isn't much but if you could add a 'Photo by...' credit we could be interested.

It could be quite a good thing to do, get a thread running for photo requests and see what happens maybe?

You still have not said what sort of photograph you are looking for.

So I don't see how people can help you on this forum.

However, £ 12 for a professionally taken photo! Would you do anything for £ 12? I guess not.

It never seems to surprise me why everyone thinks photography as a skill shouldn't cost anything these days.

Probably for the same reason so many have no qualms about stealing music!

As in the old video clip 'Internet vs Real Life' - 'This is the internet. I want it NOW and I want it FREE!'

Nothing wrong that - as long as it's only an opening stance for further negotiations hehe

So OP, if you spill the beans we'll have a trawl through our libraries of stuff and see what we can rake up. £100p/h - £12 gets you 16.67 minutes biggrin
